Mt. Gramos, the beginning of Pindos

On the northernmost tip of the Pindos mountain
range, Mt. Gramos with an altitude of 2,520 meters is the fourth tallest mountain in Greece. It is just a few kilometers from Kastoria, which is 200 km from Thessaloniki. The two cities are connected by the Egnatia Odos Motorway. Gramos is the connecting point between the Prefecture of Kastoria and the Prefecture of Ioannina, between Western Macedonia and Epiros and also between Greece and neighboring
Albania.

It is precisely its geographical position that puts Mt. Gramos on the forefront of all great historical events of the 20th century. At the same time, it also contributed to the formation of all ecological
characteristics that make Mt. Gramos one of the most important protected mountain areas, since it hosts a wide spectrum of special and rare habitats from the valleys of Aliakmon and Sarantaporos, the beech and black pine forests to the alpine meadows and its ridge.
